European blending mandates seen boosting 2022 ethanol demand 10%

January 4, 2022 |

In Belgium, Platts reports European ethanol demand will rise 10% to 6,490 million liters in 2022 thanks to biofuel mandates. With new E10 mandates in the UK and Sweden last year together with France and Germany expanding their mandates this year, demand will increase in the short term, but production will only increase 4% to 6.016 billion liters. Demand is expected to grow more over the next few years as European member states implement the “Fit for 55” policies announced last summer seeking to reduce GHG emissions by 55% by 2030.
