Prized poop elephant dung bricks, Ecovative partnering up with Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger on mushroom-based leather, and more: The Digest’s Top 8 Innovations for the week of January 7th

January 6, 2022 |

Here in Digestville, we’ve covered many ways that waste is useful with trash to treasure, trash to cash, poop to power, poop to plastic, poop pigments, dairy doodoo, and more (and now we realize just how frequently we use the word ‘poop’ – New Year’s Resolution #1: find synonyms for ‘poop’), but this week’s Top 8 Innovations includes something new – elephant dung (aha! Synonym for ‘poop’) bricks which now that we think of it, makes total sense given the high amount of fiber and strength in that prized poop.

In today’s Digest, in addition to dung, there’s news that Ecovative is partnering up with Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger on mushroom-based leather, Mercedes-Benz taps AMSilk for biobased materials, a breakthrough from Singapore on biodegradable food packaging that also extends the shelf life of fruit, and more.
