India proposes excise tax on gasoline with less than 9% ethanol content

In India, the Hindu Business Line reports that the government has proposed lobbing an additional tax on gasoline that is blended with less than 9% ethanol as part of the Finance Bill 2022 in an effort to further drive ethanol demand. If approved, the 3 cent per liter excise tax would come into effect from October 1, the start of the new sugarcane crush but a month before the start of the new ethanol marketing year. Also within the proposed bill are rules for E12 and E15.
