Subsidized rice sales for ethanol feedstock seen helping reduce massive stocks

February 2, 2022 |

In India, the Hindu Business Line newspaper reports that as rice stocks continue to remain well above the country’s needs, the government is likely to try to reduce up to 10 million metric tons of those stocks over the next five years through subsidized prices for ethanol producers. Current estimates are that rice-based ethanol production could be around 10 million-11 million tons of rice annually, producing up to 4.8 billion liters of ethanol. Rice stocks on April 1, 2021 were 368% higher than the prescribed stocks level of 13.58 million tons.
