February 6, 2022 |

In Washington, D.C., the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office released two new Requests for Information (RFI) around biomass and energy issues, focusing on biomass conversion research, development and analysis and community-scale resource and energy recovery from waste solutions.

The first, titled “Biomass Conversion Research, Development, and Analysis Programs,” seeks input on several priority areas relating to activities in the Conversion Research and Development (R&D) program, including:

  • Improved Robustness of Microbial Cells (Category 1)
  • Improved Robustness of Catalytic Processes (Category 2)
  • State of Technology (SOT) Analyses in the BETO Research Portfolio (Category 3)

Responses must be provided as attachments to email to [email protected].

The second RFI, titled “Community-Scale Resource and Energy Recovery from Waste Solutions,” seeks input from industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders on issues related to community programs for organic waste.

For the purposes of this RFI, BETO is particularly interested in the following organic waste streams:

  • Dairy manure
  • Swine manure
  • Food waste
  • Municipal wastewater residuals
  • Fats/oils/greases

Responses to this RFI must be submitted electronically to [email protected]. In addition to, or in lieu of, providing written responses to this RFI, respondents may request a 30-minute individual discussion with a BETO staff member.

Responses to both RFIs must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. ET on March 11, 2022. View the full RFIs on EERE Exchange or Grants.gov, or find them on the BETO website.
