TotalEnergies and FNSEA join forces to support biomethane, biofuels

March 13, 2022 |

In France, TotalEnergies and the National Federation of Farmers’ Unions (FNSEA) are forging a partnership with a view to supporting and accelerating the energy, environmental and economics of the agricultural sector in France, aiming in particular at the development of biomethane, renewable energies and biofuels.

Under the terms of the agreement, TotalEnergies and the FNSEA joint working groups will develop sustainable solutions and projects aimed at:

  • produce green electricity, thanks to agrivoltaic installations to protect certain agricultural crops from bad weather and meteorological risks (rain, hail, wind) or even to develop non-productive agricultural land;
  • produce biomethane – a renewable gas that can be used either as a renewable fuel for mobility (bioNGV or bioLNG), or as a complement to natural gas in its other uses – by recovering agricultural organic waste, in areas with high potential, in response to needs specific to local actors;
  • produce biofuels by developing new agricultural sectors through the recovery of agricultural residues, “low greenhouse gas” crops or intermediate crops.
