Brazilian sugar mills kick start crush to produce ethanol in a hurry

March 14, 2022 |

In Brazil, despite expectations that the sugarcane crush would start later than in recent years due to weather impeding the crop’s development, Reuters reports some mills will start up in the near term to produce ethanol, taking advantage of higher gasoline prices. UNICA data shows 159,000 metric tons of cane were crushed during H2 February, producing 129 million liters of ethanol. Although the crushed volume was 76% lower than the same time last year, ethanol production was 8% higher.
