DiCaprio and Kutcher invest in shrimp shell foam startup

In California, a manufacturer of a biobased alternative to Styrofoam has added Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashton Kutcher to its roster of investors. The two A-listers will also serve as advisors to Cruz Foam, which will use the unspecified funds to scale up production of its certified-compostable biopolymer foams and shift from development to commercialization. 

“Cruz Foam is taking a major step in reducing the environmental impact of the supply chain industry,” DiCaprio says in a press statement. “The mission to eliminate single use plastics in the ongoing battle for a cleaner and more sustainable environment makes me excited to join as an investor and advisor and I look forward to what we’ll achieve together.”

Cruz Foam uses chitin from seafood industry waste such as shrimp shells as feedstock. Its investors also include At One Ventures, Sony Innovation Fund, and Regeneration.VC.
