May 2, 2022 |

In Germany, Euractiv reports the government is contemplating suspending biofuel production from cereals and oilseeds in an effort to ensure food security in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The agriculture minister and environment minister are working together to assess the situation and any potential policy shifts as necessary to respond to the evolving market impacts of the conflict. Currently, around 5% of arable land in Germany is used for biofuel production. The government has already decided to no longer recognize palm oil biodiesel as having environmental benefits.
