#2 Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. invests in Motif FoodWorks

In Boston, foodtech company Motif FoodWorks says it has received unspecified funding from Footprint Coalition Ventures, an investment firm founded by Marvel star Robert Downey Jr.

Motif uses precision fermentation to produce ingredients that mimic animal muscle protein, while plant proteins and plant-based carbohydrates help it achieve meat-like texture.

“If plant-based foods are going to make a real impact on sustainability, we need an approach that’s both delicious and nutritious,” Downey Jr. says in a press statement. “By focusing on both better tasting and healthier options, Motif is not only making a difference in products today but reimagining the future of tomorrow’s plant-based foods.”

Motif also unveiled an expanded product portfolio for foodservice providers, distributors, and retailers with private labels. The new products include finished alternative beef, pork and chicken formats that feature its food technologies HEMAMI and APPETEX.
