In Spain, La Vanguardia reports two people have died after an explosion occurred at a biodiesel plant in Calahorra located in the ‘El Recuenco’ area, near the ‘Tierra Rapaz’ nature theme park.

As confirmed by the Government Delegation, around 12:55 p.m. there has been a notice from 112 reporting the explosions and a curtain of thick black smoke is covering the entire estate. At this time, the plant is evacuated.

The Calahorra City Council has asked the public “to vacate the industrial estates due to the existence of a risk of explosion”. In fact, the security perimeter has been extended to more than 1 kilometer due to the danger of the flames reaching a nearby warehouse.

Ecologists in Action of La Rioja has reported – through a press release – that in recent years the entity itself “has filed numerous complaints with the administration for the management of the Initiatives Bioenergetics, SL factory in Calahorra”, where it is the explosions have taken place.
