June 6, 2022 |

In India, The Times of India newspaper reports that the country has achieved its 10% ethanol blending target five months head of its October deadline. The announcement was made by the Prime Minister in celebration of World Environment Day, saying that the achievement has meant a savings of 2.7 million metric tons of carbon emissions, $5.27 billion less spent on fossil fuel imports and another $5.14 billion in additional revenue for farmers. The government had threatened to impose a levy on fuel that wasn’t blended with 10% ethanol by October 1 but that hasn’t been necessary.
