India expands excise tax exemption for higher ethanol and biodiesel blends

July 5, 2022 |

In India, Reuters reports the government has expanded the excise tax exemption on biofuels to include ethanol and vegetable oils so that oil marketing companies would be encouraged to increase biofuel blending. Previously, the excise tax exemption for ethanol was only available for 10% blends but will now be applied to 12% to 15% blends as well. Biodiesel blends for up to 20% will also receive an excise tax exemption as long as the feedstock comes from vegetable oils.
