In Nebraska, Brownfield Ag News reports that despite the extensive environmental controversies emanating from the AltEn ethanol facility, the department of environment and energy has provided the company with a new permit allowing it to apply 150 million gallons of discharge to 320 acres in Saunders County through July 2027. The company is not allowed to discharge waste in the state’s waterways, however. Toxic solid and liquid waste products resulting from the company’s use of treated seed corn as ethanol feedstock led to the state shutting the facility down.
