US Geological Survey joins research teams into impacts of AltEn’s ethanol production

July 20, 2022 |

In Nebraska, the Lincoln Journal Star newspaper reports that the US Geological Survey is the latest agency to study the environmental impacts of AltEn’s ethanol production from seed corn to better under the impacts of the neonicotinoid pesticides used on seed corn on the local ecosystem. The neonics impact the nervous system of insects which can have longer lasting effects on the environment when they are released as happened at AltEn. The USGS’s work is meant to inform policymaking to ensure that the same doesn’t happen with other ethanol plants around the country.
