India’s National Green Tribunal opens pollution investigation into ethanol plant

In India, the Tribune newspaper reports that 45 days after farmers began their sit-in to demand investigation into alleged groundwater discharge pollution from an ethanol plant in Zira, the National Green Tribunal has finally created a committee to look into the matter. Representatives from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), State Pollution Control Board (PCB) and Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner will investigate the situation and report back to the NGT within two weeks. The NGT finally responded to the grievances following a complaint by the NGO Public Action Committee.
