The Digest’s 2022 Multi-Slide Guide to Utilizing Electricity to Produce Intermediates from CO2 and Biomass

This project funded by the US Department of Energy and led by NREL’s Josh Schaidle aims to Guide existing and future research and development efforts by defining key technical challenges, risks, cost/carbon intensity drivers, and future technical targets for utilizing renewable electricity and CO2to improve biorefinery economics and carbon utilization. The team hopes to develop and publish a comprehensive design report for the integration of CO2utilization into two existing conceptual biorefinery designs, which will include conceptual process models, pioneer and nthplant economics, identification and quantification of technological risks, and projections for future cost reductions.
