Spain commits to helping other countries in the development and use of SAF

September 29, 2022 |

In Spain, the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to actively collaborate in programs for the development and deployment of SAF at a global level.

Spain communicated to the ICAO its willingness to participate in the “ICAO Assistance, Capacity Building and Training for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (ACT-SAF)” program, for the development and deployment of sustainable aviation fuel at a global scale, which require establishing coordinated collaboration mechanisms for their rapid and massive use.

The ACT-SAF initiative, launched in June 2022, provides for the technical contribution to States that request support, assistance that will be managed by the ICAO’s Technical Cooperation Bureau. To date, Colombia and Guatemala have communicated their interest in receiving assistance from Spain, and Peru is expected to convey similar interest.
