Shell close to FID on $1.48B Convent refinery conversion to renewable diesel and SAF

In Louisiana, the Houston Chronicle reports Shell plans to invest $1.48 billion to convert its former Convent oil refinery outside New Orleans. The first stage of the conversion would see renewable diesel and SAF produced for used and virgin oils as well as animal fats. The project is part of a potential $10 billion plan to convert the company’s assets along the Gulf Coast towards renewables with two other key projects in Louisiana and one in Texas under development. The final investment decision of the Convent conversion is expected soon.
