December 27, 2022 |

In the UK, York Press reports that Drax is waiting to find out if it is shortlisted for the government’s ‘Track 1’ BECCS power program to kick off a £2 billion bioenergy with carbon capture and storage project that aims to capture and bury under the North Sea 95% of the carbon emissions from its biomass power plant. The project aims to remove 8 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually from its two power stations in Selby. If it is shortlisted, a final investment decision would be made in 2024 with a first unit online in 2027, followed by a second one in 2030. Two pilot tests have already been completed at Selby.
