Oman runs first bus powered by date kernel-based biodiesel

December 27, 2022 |

In Oman, the Oman Observer newspaper reports that a bus has run on biodiesel produced from date kernels, developed by researchers at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The project to develop the date kernel-based biodiesel began in 2015 as a way to find use for the waste while helping to produce domestic biofuel that will help support the country’s transportation decarbonization ambitions. In October, Oman set a 2050 target to achieve carbon neutrality in line with the Paris Agreement.
