Meadow Lake Tribal Council Bioenergy Center providing power to around 5,000 homes

January 2, 2023 |

In Canada, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reports Meadow Lake Tribal Council Bioenergy Center in northwestern Saskatchewan is pumping out energy for the community during its first winter in action. The country’s largest First Nations-owned sawmill, NorSask Forest Products, has been burning its wood waste in a beehive burner for the past 50 years but a new C$100 million bioenergy plant takes that wood waste and converts it into power for around 5,000 homes, 8.3MW of power. Elders are pleased they are no longer wasting a quarter of every tree.
