In New Zealand, RNZ reported that Scion, a Rotorua-based research institute is aiming to establish a bio-energy industry which will include SAF production. “We’re looking at ways of converting [organic materials] into useful energy products, whether they’re solids, liquids, or gaseous,” said Scion’s bio-energy portfolio leader Paul Bennet. “We are able to produce liquids from wood, and those liquids are getting closer and closer to the sort of fuels that are used in the market at the moment,” Bennet said. According to the report, Scion’s wood-based aviation fuel would likely be the first product to reach the market.
