In Germany, Reuters reports the environmental minister plans to propose to the cabinet that the country drop the use of crop-based biofuels as a means to decarbonize transportation, saying that using a land area equivalent to 20% of Germany—both at home and abroad—to supply 4% of the country’s transportation fuel doesn’t make sense. She is a proponent of waste-based biofuels, however, and wants to see those volumes increase to take up the market from crop-based fuels.
