January 25, 2023 |

In Portugal, W Electric reports PepsiCo Portugal announced a new biodigester at its snack factory in Carregado will begin construction in April, which will transform organic waste into biogas with a total investment of 7.5 million euros.

In addition to achieving a 30% reduction in carbon emissions at the Carregado unit, the biodigester will also contribute to reducing gas consumption, allowing the factory to use the biogas produced during the anaerobic digestion process. The new biodigester will use the sludge produced at the plant’s wastewater treatment plant and potato peelings, as well as other food waste unfit for consumption.
