Indian sugar mills diver 38% more sugar to ethanol through Feb. 15

In India, the Hindu Business Line newspaper reports sugar diversion to ethanol production is up 38% on this season through February 15 at 2.5 million metric tons, data from the Indian Sugar Mills Association shows. Sugar diversion was just 1.87 million tons during the same period last season. Mills expect to divert 1 million more tons of sugar by the end of the season than they did in 2021/22, reaching 4.5 million tons. Oil marketing companies have already floated tenders for the ethanol equivalent of 4.2 million tons of sugar.
