US FDA clears GOOD Meat’s cultivated chicken for sale

March 27, 2023 |

In California, cultivated meat maker GOOD Meat has received a “no questions” letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its cultivated chicken, marking just the second such approval in the United States.

The letter means that “following a careful and rigorous evaluation,” the FDA has accepted the company’s conclusion that its first poultry product, cultivated chicken, is safe to eat.

GOOD Meat is now working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on necessary approvals. Once secured, renowned chef José Andrés will begin serving GOOD Meat’s chicken to customers at a restaurant in Washington, D.C.

Late last year, UPSIDE Foods received the first “no questions” letter for its cultivated chicken. Singapore is currently the only country where cultivated meat is available for commercial sale.
