Louis Dreyfus plans to double Canadian canola crushing capacity by 2025

April 11, 2023 |

In Canada, Reuters reports that Louis Dreyfus plans to double its canola crushing capacity at its Yorkton, Saskatchewan facility to more than 2 million metric tons by 2025 as part of the global drive to boost renewable diesel production. The company’s main competitors including Cargill and Viterra have already announced canola crushing capacity. Most canola oil is used for human consumption while the meal is used for animal feed, but demand has soared for vegetable oils, including for biofuel feedstocks, due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year.
