Indian sugar diversion to ethanol falls

In India, the Economic Times of India newspaper reports the volume of sugar that is diverted to ethanol will fall by 11% this season to with sugar production after diversion falling to 32.8 million metric tons from 34 million tons last season due to the 3.5% reduction in sugarcane production. Sugar production over all will fall by 4.6% to 36.8 million tons pre-diversion, compared t 38.5 million tons. The lower sugarcane production for ethanol is causing the government to look more seriously at cane alternatives for feedstock.
