Sarawak government announces SAF trial in Malaysia

May 24, 2023 |

In Malaysia, Free Malaysia Today reported that the premier of Sarawak state, Abang Johari Openg, announced that the state will test its algae-based sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on an aircraft flying to Langkawi.

Abang Johari said the flight will use a small amount of the SAF, which was produced through a collaborative effort between the state and Japanese partners.

“This SAF will be a boon to Sarawak. We’ve produced this fuel through this collaborative effort, but the amount is still small. We will develop it on a larger scale for our planes,” he said.

Abang Johari said the success of this test would pave the way for other areas in the state to venture into SAF production.
