NetZero inaugurates its first biochar factory in Brazil

May 31, 2023 |

In Brazil, NetZero inaugurated its first biochar factory in Brazil. Located in the State of Minas Gerais, this plant was built in just 6 months and is the first of its kind in Latin America. Its annual production capacity of over 4,500 metric tons of biochar will allow to remove the equivalent of more than 6,500 tons of atmospheric CO2, while bringing a durable fertilisation solution for agriculture.

Thanks to a partnership with Coocafé, a cooperative of more than 10,000 farmers, NetZero will collect thousands of tons of residues from coffee dehusking to turn them into biochar. This soil amendment will be used by 400 coffee growers to improve their crop yields while allowing to store atmospheric carbon in soils for hundreds of years.
