IATA says too soon for aviation biofuels at scale; aims for 6% switch by 2020

June 13, 2011 |

In Singapore, IATA’s Director for Aviation Environment Paul Steele communicated that it is unrealistic for the industry to switch to biofuels now because of the high price and lack of supply, despite his indication that the industry would like to fly 100 percent jet biofuels as soon as possible.

IATA strives to replace 6 percent of its jet fuel with biofuel by 2020, as the carbon emissions from biofuels were 80% lower than kerosene jet fuel.
