Indian government slams Bloomberg report alleging food insecurity due to biofuels push

October 7, 2021 |

In India, Business Today reports the central government has slammed a recent Bloomberg story that said the country’s policy shift towards crops such as rice and corn instead of wastes as before will put India’s food security at risk. It called the report “unfounded, malicious and bereft of facts”. The petroleum and natural gas ministry said the hope is that using corn for ethanol production will boost the amount of animal feed available domestically while despite giving away free rice during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still surplus stores available.
