In New York state, Reuters reports heating oil must be blended with 5% biodiesel beginning July 1 following legislation that was passed just before Christmas. That blending level will increase to 10% by 2025 and 20% by 2030. New York City and Long Island already have similar laws in place as do nearby Rhode Island and Connecticut who approved legislation last summer. The new law is expected to lead the state to reducing its petroleum diesel consumption by 200 million gallons annually along with 1 million metric tons of carbon emissions.
