Clariant opens $150M cellulosic ethanol plant in Romania

In Romania, Renewables Now reports that Clariant has opened its $150 million cellulosic ethanol plant in Dolj. Feedstock contracts have been signed with more than 300 local farmers to secure the required 250,000 metric tons of straw required annually. The facility will produce 50,000 metric tons of cellulosic ethanol annually. Production was last expected to start in Q4 2021 following the start of construction in 2018. The project has received about $43 million in funding from the European Union.
