In Zimbabwe, the government may be trying to force families displaced by a dam project to work at an ethanol project owned by President Mugabe’s ruling party. Human Rights Watch reports that families have been threatened with losing food aid if they refuse to work on 2.2 acre plots connected to the ethanol plant’s sugar cane plantation. The government has denied the accusation and claims to have given adequate time for the families to move from the flooded area around the dam.
