In India, Haryana state’s Chief Minister has waived the 5% VAT on biodiesel in an effort to boost the fuel’s consumption. The announcement was made during a rally where a number of non-biofuel related issues were covered. Haryana is one of the states currently blending ethanol at 10% but is expected to benefit from increased investment in biodiesel production following the national government’s recent announcement of a future B5 blending mandate. Nova Biofuels has sought to develop the state’s first biodiesel facility that would produce 30 metric tons of fuel per day from vegetable oils, oil seeds and waste fats.
