In India, Tata Chemicals said that it will make an initial $15 million investment in the biofuel production in Mozambique originally developed by Grown Energy. In 2009, the Mozambican government granted 15,000 hectares in Chemba district for a sugarcane biofuels project that would ultimately cost $224 million and produce up to 26 million gallons (100 million liters) of ethanol per year. Last October, Tata Chemicals acquired Grown Energy for $1.1 million.
