Milestone is South Australia: $11.4 million facility begins blending 5% green hydrogen into the natural gas network
In South Australia, a major milestone has been reached with the initiation of construction at the Australian Gas Network’s (AGN) hydrogen production facility, where the renewable hydrogen will be blended with the natural gas network to supply 710 customers with a hydrogen admixture. The $11.4 million, 1.25MW facility will start renewable hydrogen production around mid-2020. The South Australian Premier stated that there will be “no additional cost to customers receiving the blended 5% renewable gas and the change will not impact any arrangements these customers have with their existing natural gas retailer.” This project is the very first step in bringing AGN’s vision of 100% renewable gas networks to fruition.
