NortH2 project—launched by Gasuine, Groningen Seaports and Shell Nederland—hopes to see 10GW production by 2040
In the Netherlands, a consortium of Gasunie, Groningen Seaports, and Shell Nederland have officially launched the NortH2 green hydrogen project, a mega offshore wind farm that is poised to produce 3 to 4 gigawatts by 2030, thereby massively contributing to the Dutch Climate Accord. The most ambitious feature of the project is to reach a 10GW production by 2040, which will be complemented by hydrogen production facilities to manage variation in generation capacity. The project will begin with a feasibility study that is expected to be finished by the end of this year. President Director of Shell Nederland stated that the “project accelerates the energy transition…Together we will have to pioneer and innovate to bring together all the available knowledge and skills that are required. The energy transition calls for guts, boldness, and action.“
