Yosemite Clean Energy (Yosemite) is a renewable energy developer that uses gasification technology to convert farm and forest wood waste into both carbon negative RNG and carbon negative green hydrogen (“H2”) for California’s transportation sector. Yosemite’s first plant is in Oroville, CA and will utilize 90,000 bone dry tons per year of forest and farm wood waste from wildfire fuels mitigation and agricultural management to produce 31 tons of RNG per day and 13 tons of H2 per day.

Yosemite Clean Energy’s management includes a team of founders and executives who are expert-level forestry management, agribusiness, finance, and technical leaders, highly capable to help scale this mission-driven company. They combine vision, financial planning, sound management and industry experience to position YCE as a leader in an energy industry that is robust, complex, and changing rapidly.

Yosemite, its Affiliated project companies, Yosemite Fuels LLC, and Yosemite Assurance Inc,  are all managed by Yosemite for the strategic plant and fueling network development, and will provide outsource management services to the Affiliated companies in the initial phase or of development.  Yosemite plans  to develop a target of 5 production plants and a fueling station network of 20 stations over the next 5 years.

Position Summary:

The Chief of Staff / Vice President of Operations (“Chief of Staff”) title will be selected based off of candidate’s experience and level of expertise. The Chief of Staff role reports directly to the CEO and will include daily interaction with managing members as well as the executive team. In this tight-knit team, the Chief of Staff will be involved in most day-to-day operations of the company, and will work directly with the CEO on a designated portfolio and execute tasks prioritized by the executive team. The Chief of Staff will have a specific portfolio within the company based on the skill-set of candidate and the needs of the Company. The Chief of Staff will also be responsible for ensuring that company projects stay on schedule, that company resources are delegated toward highest priorities, that the CEO’s and other executives’ schedules reflect these priorities, and that the company is responsive to its partners, financers, potential financers, and the farm and forest biomass community that we serve. Yosemite is developing a complex business within a complex industry, and the Chief of Staff will be required to keep abreast of all aspects of the company, while discerning which tasks she/he can complete and which tasks need to be delegated.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Understand company priorities and ensure company energy reflects those priorities
  • Manage a designated portfolio within the company, assigned to the candidate based on the abilities of the candidate and the needs of the company
  • Manage and direct staff to ensure company resources are utilized to complete company objectives
  • Manage the CEO’s schedule to ensure completion of said objectives
  • Establish and track company objectives, goals, and milestones, and monitor staff KPIs
  • Track the executive team’s internal and external communication to ensure critical emails are responded to, deadlines are met, and critical internal and external meetings are set up and held
  • Prepare executive team for external meetings, ensure their attendance, and manage post meeting follow-up
  • Represent executives on meetings that they cannot or do not need to be present at, and speak to company issues/respond to company questions on behalf of the executive team
  • Establish and manage company protocols to ensure organization, team collaboration, and communication
  • Implement and design project management, communications using appropriate software such as Smartsheet or Asana
  • Plan and manage standing leadership meetings

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of experience leading major cross-functional projects, developing major commercial or industrial projects, or working closely in management with executive leadership teams
  • Organizational Excellence: Superior ability to exercise judgment, discretion, and initiative in managing multiple projects. Success creating processes that accelerate decisions and bring complex tasks to closure. Ability to understand the big picture but also have an innate ability to drill down and execute with high attention to detail.
  • Time management: Ability to manage time effectively and be focused on setting and executing clear objectives and priorities. Commitment to excellence and high standards. Willing to get one’s hands dirty and personally complete company projects as needed
  • Relationship Skills: Extensive interpersonal, coordination, and negotiation acumen with the ability to cultivate strong collaborative relationships. Ability to read opinions/perspectives of staff and assist in clear communication between staff. Knowledge of protocol and careful attention to detail when handling sensitive topics with staff, partners, governments, and the general public
  • Strategic Partnership: Demonstrated ability advising senior executives in advancing projects, policies, and proposals. Proven success offering solutions and taking personal ownership of activities that create insights and bandwidth for leadership.
  • Clarity: Ability to research, report and facilitate discussion on complex subjects. Able to present data in a manner that enables clear understanding of interests and options.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly communicate ideas or concerns concisely, in both written and oral format. Comfortable making public presentations in the marketplace.
  • Institutional Knowledge: Experience working in renewable energy, natural resource management, or industrial project development preferred
  • Flexibility: Energy, resilience, and good humor. Flexibility in portfolio management, and in schedule—ability to travel nationally and abroad periodically. Ability to adjust thinking and facilitate details in emergency situations.
  • The position is preferred in person in the Fresno area. Hybrid in-person/remote schedule may be optional.
