Summary

Ubiquity Biosciences is in the process of acquiring an ethanol plant in Sauget IL. This Position is responsible for all aspects of the ethanol plant startup & operations, including production, maintenance, shipping and receiving, and quality control. Responsibilities include plant optimization to ensure safety, compliance, quality, and maximum production. The Plant Manager works directly with and provides leadership to managers in the following departments:  Finance, Human Resources, Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Logistics. Prior experience in ethanol plant operations is highly desired for this position.

Essential Job Functions

  • Accountable for all plant operations, maintenance, and production goals
  • Champion a culture of “Safety First” and “Right The First Time”
  • Ultimately responsible for performance management of all employees. This will include KPIs, performance reviews, goal setting, disciplinary action, career development, and succession planning
  • Develop and control profits, plans, and budgets.
  • Implement cost-effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages, and salaries
  • Develops direct reports through teamwork, coaching, and innovation
  • Oversees cost control and efficiency initiatives relating to continuous improvement of plant operations
  • Implement a robust Preventive Maintenance Program to maximize Equipment/Process uptime
  • Critical skills include leadership of management team, safety practices, instrumentation, automated plant operations programs, and a strong understanding of the biological and chemical reactions required to produce biofuels
  • Responsible for 24-hour operation and expected to respond to developing conditions and crisis situations when necessary
  • Implement a robust Preventive Maintenance Program to maximize Equipment/Process uptime
  • Actively promote the company’s vision, mission, and values with employees, outside vendors, and customers
  • Present capital request justifications to the VP of Operations
  • Communicate production performance and carry out all directives from the VP of Operations
  • Meet with various vendors that supply production-related products
  • Establishes policies and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness
  • Participates in maintenance planning to determine and plan required projects, the status of ongoing projects, and scheduling of future projects
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and a friendly atmosphere

Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in engineering or related field is highly desired
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a processing plant environment, with an emphasis on strategic oversight of biological and chemical processes. Prior experience in an ethanol plant is highly desired
  • Individual desires to promote the collective interests of the team more than self-interest
  • Good people management skills and overall business managerial skills
  • Good business acumen and global perspective of the industry

Physical Requirements

  • This position is largely self-directed and requires an understanding of company     policy, procedures, and values.
  • Must be able to manage confined space entry, climb ladders and steps, and lift a    minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to adapt to outside work environments which could include cold, heat, wind, rain, snow, and slippery surfaces
  • Individuals will be exposed to high noise levels at times
