BioVeritas is commercializing a ‘new-to-the-world’ sustainable process for producing high-value, all-natural carboxylic acids from renewable plant-based feedstocks. These carboxylic acids are used directly or as intermediates in a wide range of applications and markets including natural food ingredients (mold inhibitors, flavors), feed preservation and animal nutrition, antimicrobials for animal antibiotic replacements, skincare, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, flavors and fragrances, health supplements, high performance lubricants, herbicides, polymers and plasticizers. Our platform has the potential to significantly reduce global reliance on fossil fuels.

Position Overview

Our company is growing rapidly and is looking for a bioprocess operations production chemist. Please review the list of responsibilities and qualifications below. While this is our ideal list, we will consider candidates that do not necessarily have all the qualifications but have sufficient experience and talent. You must be a self-motivated resourceful team player that can apply an innovative approach and strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to technical detail to support a tech venture with a world-class team of scientists, engineers, business development leaders and operations technologists.

Job Responsibilities

  • Technical evaluation of processes with respect to chemistry, safety, plant fit, materials hazards and development of the basis for a smooth transition to real.
  • manufacturing/production scale by coordinating process development projects with technical and operations supervision.
  • Participate in multifunctional project teams and communicate the progress and exchanges with various stakeholders
  • Provide technical support to operations team which incorporates on-line analytical instruments and operating laboratory equipment.
  • Develop new methods for analysis of samples arising from pilot processes.
  • Responsible for development and review of GMP manufacturing production records.
  • Originate change orders for manufacturing docs, SOPs.
  • Design experiments and analyze plant performance by performing laboratory and process operations trials, maintaining records of findings/results and prepare/present reports of tests with any appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Identify areas for improvement or rationalization of process plant and develop supporting rationale.
  • Assist Operations in the sampling of liquids and solids for routine and non-routine testing from designated sample ports.
  • Routinely assess the effects of current activities advising measures to identify hazards, prevent pollution and minimize health and safety risks and environmental impacts to senior management.
  • Identify, plan and implement process improvement projects.
  • Plan and support the introduction of new products and processes, including new and alternative raw materials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Science, Engineering, Biochemistry, Technical, Biology, Industrial, Manufacturing or equivalent experience
  • Experience in the process industries: chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals
  • Understanding of statistical process control
  • Lean six sigma principles experience is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to be a self-starter and work independently and drive collaborative projects forward to draw conclusions and communicate recommendations
  • At least 5-10 years’ experience in a related industry supporting bioprocess development and manufacturing
  • Experience utilizing Design of Experiment (DOE) principles would be an advantage
  • Working knowledge of Lean principles would be an advantage
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt analytical techniques to the needs of the business
  • Experience with fermentation is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated project management and program planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and coordinate across disciplines.
