Phycal aims for $45M grant from USDA for Alabama algae project

In Alabama, the mayor of Hoover has written a letter of support for a $45 million grant from the USDA to the SouthEast Region Algae Consortium for to build a demonstration plant on property near the Inverness Wastewater Treatment plant, where water would be used to grow algae if the grant is received. The project is being developed through Cleveland-based Phycal.

Phycal has landed a Department of Energy grant in efforts to construct a 40-acre pilot algae farm in Hawaii but the Ohio plant would be smaller with the city leasing the project 2.5 acres.
