Braskem launches 57 Mgy ethanol to ethylene project in Brazil

In Brazil, Braskem commenced production at a 57 Mgy ethanol to ethylene conversion plant at Triunfo, in the state of Rio Grande. Project cost was $278 million, and produces polyethylene resisn through a polymerization process that will supply green polyethylene to Tetra Pak, Toyota Tsusho, Shiseido, Natura, Acinplas, Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble and Petropack. The company will utilize 120 Mgy of ethanol from projects in São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná. Overall to date, Braskem has utilized 185 Mgy of ethanol to produce green polyethylene and the ETBE fuel additive.
