EU biodiesel industry plagued by feedstock costs, foreign competition

In France, the CEO of Diester Industri says that Europe’s biodiesel industry is plagued by overcapacity, cheap imports from Argentina and spreads between vegetable oil and crude oil that are just too wide. With about 50% of the EU-27’s 21 million tons of capacity sitting idle, a large wave of consolidation is expected in the next few years.
