Nigeria taking another look at jatropha for biodiesel

June 30, 2016 |

In Nigeria, the agriculture minister is taking another look at biodiesel following a spike in fossil diesel prices. Farmers continue to face obstacles affording fossil diesel but the hope is that biodiesel produced on farm could help to boost agricultural yields by providing fuel for tractors and other machinery. The ministry plans to first take a look at jatropha as a possible feedstock for the biodiesel program. In the meantime, the minister has vowed to speak with the ministry of petroleum resources to find relief for farmers during the upcoming crop season.
