In Nigeria, development of a domestic biofuel industry is a priority of the new president, following the previous president’s decision to put biofuels on the backburner. A special advisor to the president told the World Energy Congress the country will now push for a more aggressive uptake of biofuels through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company’s development of several $60 million ethanol plants along with research into cassava and palm oil. The country’s oil reserves are only enough for 40 years while gas will only be around for 60 years.
