E10 France’s favorite fuel thanks to tax breaks

November 7, 2017 |

In France, E10 has become the most popular fuel on the retail market, accounting for more than 38%, seven points higher than its 95-octane competitor that contains just 5% ethanol. A tax break makes E10 up to 5 cents per liter cheaper depending on the region and is available at more than half of the gas stations. Fuel retailers chose to promote E10 over E85 in order to comply with the higher 7.5% blending mandate rather than limit efforts to those who have conversion kits or an E85-ready vehicle.
