Biodiesel tax credit fails to clear procedural hurdle in US Senate

September 17, 2010 |

In Washington, the US Senate voted down a proposed amendment from Chuck Grassley of Iowa to extend the biodiesel tax credit. The final vote was 58-41 in favor of the credit, but Senate rules required 67 votes owing to a procedural hurdle placed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

Feedstuffs.com is reporting that there are possibilities of the tax credit or a “light” energy bill (which would include a Renewable Power Standard) coming up in the waning weeks of this legislative session or the lame duck session after elections in November, with Grassley’s staff telling Feedstuffs that “I don’t think anybody can speculate with any sort of certainty as to what will happen in the lame duck.”
